Vinay Gupta
Vinay has robust analytics and consulting experience in energy and environmental markets and a keen understanding of market design and issues affecting wholesale and retail power markets. Recently, Vinay has focused his attention on assessing wind, solar, and battery storage economics and their impact on the grid. He works with a range of clients, including developers, banks, private equity firms, and utilities.
Vinay has extensively researched and modeled power and environmental markets and has experience analyzing the U.S. electricity markets, focusing on the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), and Southwest Power Pool (SPP). He has expertise in statistical optimization, simulation modeling, and financial modeling to evaluate power markets.
Vinay has supported many assignments, including power plant due diligence and evaluation, market advisory support for development and merger and acquisition projects, risk assessment in power purchase agreements/financial hedges for thermal and renewable assets, and assessment of transmission nodal basis risk. He also supported several restructuring/litigation cases, including market advisory support to a wind plant under litigation from winter events in ERCOT and supported the first lien committee of a large energy company under Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
