Dave Roe

Senior Survey Methodologist, Survey Research

Dave is a recognized methodologist, researcher, and thought leader with more than 20 years of experience focusing on innovative data capture methods, operational excellence, and creative business development.

Dave has more than two decades of experience managing various aspects of survey methods research and data collection operations for academic, nonprofit, and private for-profit research organizations. He began his survey research career as a telephone interviewer while an undergraduate at the University of Cincinnati’s Institute for Policy Research. Using this experience as a foundation for learning about research methods and applying best practices, he has built a “ground-up” career focused on constant learning and development, fueled by a passion for innovation and quality.

Dave specializes in designing, managing, and directing complex surveys of varying sizes and budgets involving multiple data collection modes. His areas of expertise include questionnaire design, web and telephone data collection, Address Based Sampling, mixed-mode data collection, alternatives to Random Digit Dialing, nonprobability sampling, and the use of evolving technologies for data capture. Dave also enjoys business development and providing senior oversight to project teams, assessing strategy, suggesting alternative approaches, and ensuring quality through all stages of data collection.

Well-versed in disseminating results and information, Dave has delivered dozens of presentations at multiple conferences while teaching short courses at Boston College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Odum Institute. He is an active participant in both the national and southern chapters of the American Association for Public Opinion Research.

Earlier in his career, Dave developed new survey research methods for government clients while he was with Abt Associates, a social science research firm. Before that, Dave spent nearly 15 years with the nonprofit research institute RTI International, serving in various roles, from leading survey tasks to managing a program for research in survey methodology.

Dave holds a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in political science, and a certificate in public opinion and survey research methods, all from the University of Cincinnati.
