Michael Junell
Michael serves as the project director for multiple clients in southwest Louisiana who were devastated by the 2020 Hurricanes Laura and Delta. He uses his leadership skills and knowledge of disaster regulations to develop and implement a strategic recovery plan that helps restore and build resiliency while preparing clients for response to potential future events. He also serves as public assistance subject matter expert, helping to lead the $90 billion Hurricane Maria recovery efforts in Puerto Rico.
Previously, Mike served as a technical and policy advisor for more than five years on aState of Louisiana Office of Risk Management contract, spanning 10 federally declared major disasters. As a public assistance subject matter expert and technical manager, Mike was instrumental in the recovery of more than $4 billion in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants.
Mike also served as a technical assistance contractor, public assistance coordinator, and advisor to FEMA leadership in the Baton Rouge Joint Field Office and Region VI for Hurricanes Gustav, Ike, and Isaac. He coordinated the recovery process from inspection to closeout on thousands of projects for a large geographical section of Louisiana while managing more than 50 FEMA staff. He also served as the senior operations manager for more than 100 disaster recovery technical consultant professionals in the field for six federally declared major disasters in Louisiana.
Mike graduated from the Amarillo College 16th Fire Academy as a Texas Commission on Fire Protection certified firefighter and nationally registered emergency medical technician. He held certifications in hazardous materials technician, driver operator, aircraft rescue, and successfully completed the National Fire Academy Fire Cause and Determination for Company Officers course. He is certified in the following areas: FEMA Operations I & II, Cost Estimating Format, Project Specialist, Public Assistance Crew Leader, Preliminary Damage Assessments, Damage Assessments, 406 Hazard Mitigation, Debris Operations, Project Worksheet Development, Incident Command System, National Incident Management, and National Response Planning.
